Introducing the customer
This UK based charity helps ex-Service men and women of every generation rebuild their lives after sight loss. Since 1915 they have provided rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support to tens of thousands of blind veterans.
What the customer was looking for
This charity has offices spread throughout the UK, and two centres in Brighton and Llandudno. So organising face to face training for staff was an expensive and difficult business. They’d also found previous training records very ad hoc. So they were looking for a Learning Management System (LMS) that could provide them with the eLearning training they needed. And help them record information about each employee’s learning progress.
The Learning & Development team had some experience of Totara Learn, and decided that this would be the best way to meet their learning needs. After some research, Engage in Learning were chosen as the best match.
How we helped
The charity wanted to enable all employees to complete learning online, with courses open to everyone in the organisation. They also wanted the ability to put in-house courses on the LMS. This enabled them to use Totara Learn’s booking system for seminars.
Totara also provided the opportunity to provide e-learning content, created by Engage in Learning, for new employees. This includes compliance training such as using display screen equipment, equality and diversity, food hygiene, fire safety and infection prevention control.
The combination of Totara and eLearning content provided by Engage in Learning ensures that all new staff start off with the right information. This is then complemented by a two-day face-to-face induction. By moving the majority of new starter learning online, they can hit the ground running without having to wait for the next face-to-face session.
In addition to this; Engage in Learning helped the organisation set up certifications within Totara Learn, meaning the system sends automatic reminders when employees are due to retake their compliance training. Thereby saving vital time and energy for the employees.
Since the platform first launched, the charity’s L&D team has worked closely with Engage in Learning to make some key improvements to the platform. They have changed the homepage design, to improve navigation and reduce the number of clicks needed to do anything. This has created a more user-friendly learner experience. The system has been able to adapt and develop in line with the needs of the user.
Engage in Learning have provided constant support to our needs as we continue to develop our platform, so it’s user-friendly and engaging for our learners. The Totara LMS has given us the opportunity to provide learning to members of staff that we couldn’t always reach before and provides a central hub for everything learning and development in our organisation. We’re looking forward to the next phase.
